A Quilter’s Reflection
It’s been almost five months since I last published here however, don’t let the silence fool you. Time spent away from my computer has allowed me to spend more time in my sewing room. It has also given me time and space to think and reflect.
Before retirement, I was firmly caught up in the daily struggles of balancing work, play and leisure. Fast forward to today, I look back on these first 10 months of my retirement as a time for quiet reflection and a chance to re-think my priorities.
I’ve been rethinking not just what I create but why I create and who I’m creating for.
This website was originally created as a place for the beginning quilter to learn the ins and outs of the quilting world. As I take a scroll down memory lane to these older posts – yikes! The good news: I have learned SO much over these years. The not-so-good news: those older posts no longer reflect how I quilt or the needs of my audience today.
I have come to the realization that many of the people who continue to visit this site, eight years later, are beginners—curious, eager, maybe even a little overwhelmed by the sheer volume of quilting advice out there. And many questions and comments I receive are specific to using a Janome sewing machine.
So, I’ve taken a step back to ask: What do beginners really need? What questions go unanswered? What purchases end up being regrets? And how can I help you build confidence, not just a stash?
This pause has given me clarity. I’m shifting my focus toward beginner-friendly guidance that’s practical, thoughtful, and inclusive. Whether you’re just threading your first needle or trying to decide which rotary cutter won’t drive you mad, I want to help you make choices that feel good and make sense.
In fact, I’ve been working on something I’m really excited to share: a customizable purchase checklist for quilters. It’s designed to help you avoid common pitfalls, prioritize what matters most, and build your toolkit with intention.
That guide will be coming soon—but for now, I just wanted to say: welcome (back). Whether you’re new to quilting or just new to this space, I’m so glad you’re here.
Let’s stitch forward, together.
